I've just accepted that I'm mostly into Sony first party stuff and third party narrative-drive stuff like RDR2 these days with some Nintendo games mixed in. So while I can appreciate while the game is so loved (and it does look and sound amazing), it's definitely just a case of a game 100% not being for me. Overall, while this will just generate "git gud" replies, the game was just too fucking hard for me as a 40 year old drinker who's reflexes, timing and coordination aren't what they once were. Even worse when you find the guy buy you died twice and lost all your currency and then have to grind to get enough while not forgetting where he is. It takes some of the reward out of exploration and adds a lot of frustration to the difficulty of the game as you can do a lot of exploring in a new area and not find the guy and die and have no map filled in. I especially hated having to find the dude to buy the map in each area. I just don't have much patience for figuring out where to go next and especially for doing a lot of backtracking while trying to figure that out as I hate repeating content these days. I bought Bloodstained to try after I finish up Detroit and that will kind of be a test for me of whether I'm sick of the genre or just haven't liked the last few I tried since reviews and impressions are so favorable. I think I'm mostly sick of metroidvania games in general despite that it used to be one of my favorite genres. I spent like 15ish hours trying to get into it on three occasions (same playthrough, just bounced off it and came back twice). The solution isnt putting in more fast travel points but perhaps giving players better tools to traveres quickly in the enviroment or something similar to the dreamgate where you set your own points of travel? I think for this genre it can be a difficult thing to balance. Looking at SOTN map there are good few dead ends too. I agree in that sometimes where places where you think would be linked are just closed off, the map is quite compact so just knocking in a few walls would of helped greatly, perhaps just too many dead ends? SOTN does have certain areas that can be a pain to traverse too, Labortory to Bell Tower to think of one. I thought the dreamgate was a pretty good solution, what do you think OP? Before dreamgate was patched in, which I think was a reaction to what issues many people had, it was horrible, especially anyone playing blind. Completely agree about getting around up until the you get the dreamgate ability which makes it more manageable, perhaps this could have been a very early ability to get.
